ANDREW BRUCE
Andrew Bruce began his career in the theatre at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in 1968, later moving to
the Royal Opera House Covent Garden where his job led him to meet his future partner and co-founder of the
London-based design and hire company, Autograph Sound Recording. In 1976 the company decided to shift direction
and specialise in musicals, working closely with American sound designers on many of the landmarks in British
Musical Theatre, starting with A Chorus Line. This association led to Andrew's appointment as Associate
Sound Designer on Evita in 1978 and Cats in 1981, and as Sound Engineering Consultants on
Starlight Express in 1984. In 1981 he was asked to supervise the vocal reinforcement system for
Les Miserables in Paris which led to his recent appointment as sound designer for the Royal Shakespeare
Company's London production.
