Written for the opening of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki on February 1, 1927. The hotel was built by Matson Lines as a luxury resort destination for its ship passengers. Another hotel of the same name had existed previously in downtown Honolulu. (See Stan Cohen, The Pink Palace, Pictorial Histories Publishing, 1986).
