DAVID ESSEX

The role of Che marks David's return to the West End stage after an absence of five years since he was acclaimed for his playing of Jesus in Godspell. This was followed by his successful films That'll Be the Day and Stardust, and his recording hits which started with 'Rock On' (a No. 1 hit and gold record on both sides of the Atlantic). In the past few years David has concentrated on composing and recording, and hundreds of sell-out concerts throughout Britain and in many countries as far afield as Australia and Japan. He has also spent a considerable amount of time doing TV shows. Apart from his British TV performances including his own series on BBC1, he has made extensive overseas TV appearances especially in France and America; The Cher Show, Midnight Special, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, The Johnny Carson Show, The Merv Griffin Show, Salute to the Beatles and The Grammy Awards are among many US TVs. Recently he worked with Richard Burton in Hollywood recording a musical version of H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds, and with Cat Stevens on a new LP From Alpha to Omega.
