DAVID LAND, producer
The well-known London agent and entrepreneur, who has been responsible for bringing many international artists, shows and spectaculars to Britain, became the personal manager of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice in May 1969. Recognising their talents through their first recording of Joseph and the Amazing Technocolor Dreamccoat, with his colleague the late Sefton Myers he provided them with the financial support and guidance which enabled them to create Jesus Christ Superstar. Since the great success of that project David Land has been the vital 'Eminence Grise' of the careers of Webber and Rice, and never have twenty four hours gone by without David being in touch with either Andrew or Tim to discuss the latest triumph or disaster. The many complex negotiations for recording, stage and film productions of Joseph, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita have all started life in his Wardour Street office. He has also handled all the (sometimes strange) solo projects that his two discoveries have from time to time undertaken. His co-production of Evita (with Robert Stigwood) is his fouth West End venture as co-producer.
