BLUE HAWAII
© 1936
Lyrics & Music: Leo Robin and Ralph Rainger
Written for the 1937 film Waikiki Wedding and interpolated as a title song in 1961's Blue Hawaii, both films from Paramount.
George S. Kanahele, in his Hawaiian Music and Musicians, calls this "one of the most popular hapa haole songs of all time" due to two widely-spaced hit recordings--those of Bing Crosby and Elvis Presley.
Sheet Music: In Aloha Hawaii (Charles Hansen Ed. Music & Books, 1966)
Recordings:
CD: Alfred Apaka, Golden Voice of the Islands, Capitol 1882
Night and you and blue Hawaii
The night is heavenly and you are heaven to me.
Lovely you and blue Hawaii,
With all this loveliness there should be love.
Come with me while the moon is on the sea.
The night is young and so are we.
Dreams come true in blue Hawaii
And mine could all come true
This magic night of nights with you.
Mahalo to Larry W. Jones for the image of the sheet music for this song.
