HAWAIIAN HULA EYES

© 1945
Lyrics & Music: William Harbottle, Randy Oness

This song, composed during World War II, refers to a bay on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. When the authors tried to send the song home to their families, it was censored because it mentioned a place (Lugna Bay on Guadalcanal), and servicemen were prohibited from telling their families where they were. The song was classified until after the War.

Hawaiian hula eyes
When you dance you hypnotize
Though I can't believe it's true

Hawaiian hula eyes
It's you I'm thinking of
With a haunting dream of love

On the sands of Lunga Bay
Where the sighing zephyrs play
I'm reminded of the one
I love
'Neath the swaying palms
I held you in my arms
My Hawaiian hula eyes
