Larry Masterson and his father are working out when a phone call comes and the boy races to County General. In front, he's hit by a car and ends up in surgery for a skull fracture. Mr. Masterson is not pleased at the surgery--the boy is set for Olympic trials. But he's paralyzed, has aphasia and another surgery is necessary--with parental approval only--and years of therapy. He also might be a vegetable and Mr. Masterson insists his son would not wish such a fate. As he goes into crisis, Casey decides to operate anyway.
