The White Dress
The real dress copied by Tazeena Furth and Timothy O'Brien was a Christian Dior and had a heavily jeweled
satin coat. The Evita designers had no way of knowing, in 1978, that the dress and coat were gold, not
white. In recent years, some of Eva Perón's belongings have finally been returned to her family, and
the coat was put on display at the Metropolitan Museum in New York several years ago, part of a Christian Dior
retrospective. It is not known whether the dress has decayed or was not returned to the family with the coat, but
it was not part of the exhibit. Eva wore the dress to a gala on July 9, 1951.
The dress seems to have a satin band at the top and waist; the bodice is solidly sequined, the multi-layered tule skirt is scattered with thousands of sequins, heaviest at the waist, tapering off near the floor.
